Memphis Head Coach John Calipari
"I saw some great signs. The biggest thing was real unselfish play. I love what we did versus the zone. I thought we were pretty good defensively. We played a little sloppy down the stretch. You get up 30, and you ask them to play like it's the first two minutes of the game. If they're not, then get out, and let somebody else play. We just break down and give up a three or try to make a crazy play, which we don't do. I liked us offensively. I liked what I saw. I think the tougher practices helped us. I think they made us much more aggressive. We're also really emphasizing ball movement and driving together, and we saw some of that today."
"I told the team if you play like that (Chris Douglas-Roberts) then go get 40. If you want to ball, stay in the game. If you want to go through the motions, you are out, and I'm going to play the guys who want to play. We should have a real chip on our shoulder after the way that people have talked about our team. They're going to be off tomorrow, and they can do some lifting and whatever they're going to do. We're going twice on Saturday and twice on Sunday. We're going to practice before we travel and when we get to Arizona. It may hurt us before we get to the game, but I'm more concerned about the mind-set we have to have."
Austin Peay Head Coach Dave Loos
"We got off to such a horrible start, and we had to play looking out of the hole the entire night. That was a big factor. Overall, they're just too big, strong and athletic. We couldn't keep them away from the basket. They shot 61 percent, and you're not going to beat anybody when they shoot 61 percent."
"(At the start of the game) we had good looks for the most part. We didn't make any. I think we were a little nervous to be honest and short-armed a couple of them. But we had good looks and just didn't get any of them down. They jumped out and next thing you know I think it was 20-2. I was afraid to look after that. We played a little harder (after that) and tried to compete. We didn't play well, but tried to compete. That's encouraging. It's hard to believe but I think we learned some things and probably will improve because of this."
"I thought we had two guys out there who really looked like they belonged in the game. That was Fernandez Lockett and D.J. Wright. They looked like they belonged in this game."
