MEMPHIS - Memphis senior women's soccer player Shoko Mikami played her final match as a Lady Tiger almost three weeks ago, but the former Conference USA Player of the Year continues to add awards to her resume. The Chiba, Japan native was named to the ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American second team as announced by CoSIDA on Monday.
This is not the first academic award for Mikami, who was named to the District IV Academic first team several weeks ago. The senior was also named to the C-USA All-Academic team this season and was an all-district academic selection in 2005 as well.
Mikami has been a standout on the classroom since transferring to Memphis in 2004. She has twice been named to the Tiger Academic 30 for having one of the top 30 grade-point averages of any student athlete at The U of M and is a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Mikami graduated after the 2006 summer semester in Interdisciplinary Studies and is now perusing a second undergraduate degree in Anthropology.
On the field, Mikami finished her career with 28 goals, 21 assists and 77 points, placing her at second on the Memphis career lists for goals and points and third in assists. She was also named to the 2006 C-USA First Team after being named Conference Player of the Year in 2005.
