Memphis Head Coach John Calipari
"I thought they played well. They didn't go away, and they had shots to get right back into the game and missed some shots late. I thought the rebounding edge is what put us over the top, but we were 13-for-36 from two feet. I'd give it (to us from) two-and-a-half feet. Whether it was because of a bump, a grab or a hold we were 13-for-36. That's the thing right now that's holding us back a little bit. We had 25 offensive rebounds. You understand that means you have the ball two feet in front of the rim. We just missed a ton of them. It was one of those things."
"We get them down 13, let's go. We go the wrong way. We kind of backed off to half speed and just didn't hit anything, and that's fine. We have an inexperienced team. We have six freshmen and two sophomores. Our bench is 0-for-11 from the field, 0-for-5 from the three and 1-for-5 from the foul line. Our bench has been one of the strongest things that we've had. I shortened in the second half because we were 0-for-9 at halftime. I just said, `Look we've got to win the game. We can't be messing around here with this team.'"
"We've got a ways to go. We're 18-2. When you beat a team who is on a 10 game win streak, it's a great win. We had chances to get it to 16, 18, 20 and we're just not capable of it yet. But hopefully we can begin to learn."
UAB Head Coach Mike Anderson
"It was not a great shooting night by either team. It really came down to rebounds and hustle plays, and Memphis made a couple more than we did. They are annihilators on the glass."
"We were still right there, but had a couple of mental breakdowns down the stretch. One in particular, we threw the ball out of bounds and it was unforced. Our kids played hard and left it on the line. Memphis is the No. 3 ranked team in the country. We come on the road in this environment, and with the effort we showed, I think we are on the verge of being a better basketball team."
"Paul Delaney came off the bench and had a huge game. I was proud of our guys. The nation got to see the Blazers as a team."
"Darius Washington shot the ball from the perimeter and made some threes tonight and that is what good players do."
