MEMPHIS-The University of Memphis Men's Cross Country team will travel to Carbondale, Illinois to compete in the Saluki Invitational hosted by the Southern Illinois University on Saturday.
The 8K race will begin at 10:45 a.m. and will be held on the SIU course near Abe Martin Field (SIU Baseball Field). The Tigers will compete against UALR, Austin Peay, Bradley, Fontbonne, Greenville College, Indiana State, and C-USA rival Louisville.
Competing for the Tigers will be Australians Adam Didyk (Adelaide, Australia, Sr.) and Kym Morgan (New Victoria, Australia, Sr.). Didyk and Morgan have been the Tigers top two runners so far this season. The duo was the Tigers top-two runners at the Memphis Twilight Classic in September. Morgan repeated as the Tigers top-runner at the Iona Invitational posting an impressive 26:16.00 in the 8K race. Didyk was the Tigers third runner at Iona.
Senior All-Conference USA runner Mate Nemeth will not compete this weekend for the Tigers. He is still recovering from offseason surgery to his sinuses. Although he competed at the Iona Invitational, Nemeth will use the this time to contin-ue his training in an attempt to get back in shape in time for the C-USA Championships.
Sophomores Szabi Karadi (Budapest, Hungary), Istvan Kerekjarto (Biatorbagy, Hungary) and Imran Mahmood (Germantown, Tennessee) will round out the competitors for the Tigers. Karadi, a highly touted recruit from Hungary, looks for a good showing at the Saluki Invitational in preparation for the C-USA Championships less than a month away.
WOMEN: The Lady Tigers will next compete at the Arkansas Chilli Pepper Invitational on Oct. 18.
Results will be posted on www.gotigersgo.com Saturday afternoon.
