Tiger Football Comes Up Short

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Marquel Blackwell passed for three touchdowns and ran for another, and South Florida held on to beat Memphis 31-28 Saturday night.
Blackwell put the Bulls (7-2) ahead 14-0 with scoring passes of 20 and 9 yards to Hugh Smith within a three-minute span.
Memphis (2-8) came back with a 6-yard pass from wide receiver Darron White to sophomore quarterback Danny Wimprine. Blackwell responded by running 3 yards for a score and adding a 7-yard TD pass en route to a 28-7 halftime lead.
Wimprine sandwiched a 5-yard scoring run with TD passes to Dante Brown and Travis Anglin as the Tigers got within three with 9:46 left.
Blackwell extended his school mark for consecutive passes without an interception to 159, going 24-for-36 for 246 yards.

Wimprine was 32-of-53 for 313 yards and set Memphis single-season passing records for attempts, completions and yards.
South Florida has won 18 straight home games and is tied with Texas for the second-longest streak in the nation behind Miami (20).
Memphis has lost six games in a row and 12 of its last 13 on the road.
