Volleyball Swept in Regular Season Finale

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team ended the regular season this evening, shutting out Memphis, 3-0. Bridget Files gave an impressive performance, leading the Lady Eagles with 22 kills, eight digs, two block solos and three block assists.
Team defense was a factor for the Lady Eagles (15-14, 6-7) who recorded 49 digs and nine team blocks. They also outhit Memphis (19-14, 4-9) in percentage, .340 to .100.
Andrea Bush reached double figures in kills with 10. Amy Truong added eight kills and 10 digs. Jazzmien Stephens finished with seven kills, and Nicki Tribble recorded 10 digs.
Senior Crystal Zane competed in her last home match of her career at Southern Miss. The setter collected 42 assists.
Brittany Barnett recorded a double-double for the Tigers with 12 kills and 12 digs. Tiara Gilkey finished with eight kills.
Memphis started game one serving two aces, but the Lady Eagles took over and built a commanding lead, winning the opener 30-16. The Tigers did not reach double figures in scoring until 21-10, and Southern Miss outhit Memphis, .441 to .029, in percentage in the first game.
Files led the Lady Eagles with five kills in the opener. Truong and Stephens each collected four kills.
The Lady Eagles never relinquished the lead in game two, winning 30-22. Twice Southern Miss led by double-figures in the second game, and the lead never dipped under six down the stretch.
Files dominated game two, collecting eight kills on 13 attacks for a .538 hitting percentage. Three other Lady Eagles collected three kills apiece, including Truong, who recorded five digs, Bush and Tribble.
Game three ended the match for Southern Miss, 30-19. Once again, the Lady Eagles controlled the lead and never let go, outhitting the Tigers, .235 to .063.
The Conference USA tournament is next up for the Lady Eagles. They travel to Chicago, Ill., for the event on Nov. 22-25.
