Lakeland, FL - University of Memphis men's golf team continued to struggle with difficult weather conditions but climbed two notches to finish 9th in the Matlock Invitational hosted by Florida Southern in Lakeland, FL. Florida Southern won the event finishing 13 strokes ahead of runner-up Alabama.
Stanford, which had held an early lead after one round, slipped to third, while Virginia Tech, Ole Miss and Georgia Southern rounded out the top five teams. Middle Tennessee State University missed their tee time on Tuesday and were unable to complete the final round.
Memphis' Chris Reinke had his best tournament as a Tiger, a 229, placing sixth among a strong field. Steve Sokal of Florida Southern claimed medalist honors with a three round total of 219.
