Tigers Downed by Cougars, 10-2

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The University of Memphis Tiger baseball team (12-9, 1-5) fell to the Cougars from the University of Houston (14-16, 6-0) for the third time in three days on Sunday afternoon in Millington, 10-2.
Houston jumped on the Tigers early, scoring one run in the first, two in the second, and seven in the third to go up 10-0. Memphis struggled offensively in the early innings, but added four hits in the bottom of the third and opened the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run by Tiger designated hitter Ryan O'Malley.
Bill Edwards (1-1) got the start for the Tigers, going two and one-third inning, giving up seven runs, and picking up his first loss of the season. For Houston, Gene Flores (2-3) took the mound for the Cougers, fanning eight Tiger batters while allowing only one earned run through seven innings of work.
Memphis will now return home to Nat Buring Stadium, for a two-game non-conference set with the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee on Tuesday, March 27th and Wednesday, March 28th with both games beginning at 7 p.m.
