MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Marcus Moody scored 17 points and Kelly Wise added 16 as Memphis beat Texas-El Paso 90-65 in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament on Tuesday night.
Five players scored in double figures for Memphis (19-14), which opened the second half with a 19-2 run for a 30-point lead, and UTEP (23-9) never threatened again.
Besides Moody and Wise, Scooter McFadgon scored 13, while Shyrone Chatman added 12 and 10 assists. Earl Barron also had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Brandon Wolfram led the Miners with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Eugene Costello added 13 points.
Moody shot 5-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and hit all four of his free throws. Wise was 6-of-12 from the field as Memphis shot 41.1 percent.
The teams traded leads through the first eight minutes, until Chatman's 15-footer gave Memphis a 16-15 lead with 11:28 left in the first half. UTEP never led again.
The Tigers, who led 42-29 at halftime, closed it with a 12-3 run.
Memphis continued to build on the advantage with a 19-2 run for a 61-31 lead, when Chatman hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 15:41 left in the game.
Memphis held a pair of 34-point leads, the final one coming when Wise hit a pair of free throws for a 77-43 advantage with just over nine minutes to play.
UTEP would never get closer than 23 points the rest of the way.
