Tiger Track Finishes Third at C-USA Championships

Houston, Texas - - The University of Memphis men's track and field team finished its 2001 C-USA Indoor Championship Meet in third place, capturing three more conference championships and setting one more meet record on the second day of competition.
Senior Stefan Matschiner won the men's 3000-meter run in 8:25.46, a C-USA indoor meet record. Matschiner was one of three gold medallists for the Tigers on Saturday. The men's 4x400 meter relay team also captured the Tigers' second relay title with a win in 3:17.26, just half a second ahead of the team from Houston.
Senior Larry Crawford, who broke a meet and school record in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash, Friday, won the 60-meter finals, Saturday, with a time of 6.76 seconds. Crawford's preliminary time of 6.73 in Friday's prelims was just .01 seconds off a provisionally-qualifying time. Crawford also competed in the final of the 200, finishing third in 21.87.
Memphis sent four individuals into the nine-person 200 finals bracket. Junior Franck Diadhiou, who also finished sixth in the 60-meter dash, also finished sixth in the 200, while freshman Ivan Williams finished seventh in the 60 and fifth in the 200 in 22.62.
Charlotte won the men's team championship with 148 points, while Houston was denied its fifth consecutive championship by finishing second with 143 points. Memphis was third with 127 points.
