Rifle Squad Finishes Eighth At NCAA Sectional

MURRAY, KY. - The University of Memphis rifle team finished eighth out of 12 teams at the NCAA Sectionals hosted by Murray State University at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range on Sunday.
Memphis did not compete in the smallbore competition and placed eighth in the air rifle competition with a score of 1475 as John Carter led the Tigers with a score of 383. Carter placed 12th overall out of 70 competitors with his score. Memphis' Charles Moss placed 40th with a score of 371, while Hateisha Williamson and Jesse Griggs placed 52nd and 55th, respectively with scores of 363 and 358.
The sectional match is used to determine which teams qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held March 8-10 at Columbus, Ohio. The qualifiers will be announced next week.
Kentucky's Blue team won the Sectional with a score of 1546 in the air rifle division. Memphis did place above Conference USA foes Saint Louis and UAB, which finished 10th and 12th, respectively. The Tigers are currently ranked 12th nationally by the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association.
