Rifle Breaks School Record Against Mercer

The University of Memphis rifle team defeated Mercer University on Jan. 25 after setting a new school record with a total score of 1516. Charles Moss led the U of M squad to victory, shooting a 390 out of 400 points. His mark set a new individual record at The U of M. Hateisha Williamson shot a 389 while John Carter scored 383 points. Jessie Griggs rounded out the squad with a 354. Amber Rikard set a new personal best with her score of 357. Mercer University scored a 1350 in the meeting.
Just two days after setting a new school record with a score of 1516 against Mercer, the Tiger rifle squad notched a new school record, scoring 1524 points at the UT-Martin Invitational. Memphis came in second out of nine teams, falling just behind Alaska, which is ranked No. 1 in the nation. Three Tigers placed in the top 10 in the meet as Hateisha Williamson placed fifth with 387 points, Charles Moss placed eighth with 385 points and John Carter ranked ninth with a score of 384. Jesse Griggs placed 27th with 368 points while Amber Rikard scored 337 points. In the tournament, Memphis placed about Ole Miss, UT-Martin, Morehead State, Austin Peay State, UT-Martin Women's team, Mercer and UAB.
On Sunday, Jan. 28, Memphis placed seventh out of 15 teams at the Withrow Invitational hosted by Murray State after scoring 1516 points. John Carter led Memphis with 383 points, followed by Charles Moss with 380 points and Hateisha Williamson with 379 points. Jesse Griggs and Amber Rikard both tied their career-bests with 374 and 357 points, respectively.
The rifle squad will travel to Murray, Ky., on Feb. 11 for the Sectional Tournament which will determine their national ranking.
