Aside from an intense 10 minute opening, the Lady Tigers dominated the contest and dictated the flow throughout the remainder of the game.
Gjertsen started the match with an unassisted effort in the seventh minute of play which gave the Lady Tigers, a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, the Lions bounced back with a goal by Kendra Oney and the score was then tied, 1-1. Memphis took the lead back in the 21st minute when senior defender Nicole Bates-Eamer fed fellow senior Michele Meehan (Immaculate Conception H.S.) for the go-ahead goal. Gjertsen stuck again, seven minutes later when she found the net off a pass from senior defender Candice Spiniolas and put it past the keeper for a 3-1 lead. The scoring trend continued when senior midfielder Tori Winslett scored off a header from freshman midfielder Rebecca Sparrow and the score was then, 4-1. Gjertsen capped off her career-day with a goal in the 77th minute when she headeda cross from freshman defender Anja Nielsen, past the keeper for a 5-1 lead and the win.
Gjertsen now has six goals, in as many games for the Lady Tigers and is currently their leading scorer.
The Lady Tigers will now begin conference play on Friday, September 15th when they travel to Charlotte to tangle with the 49ers. The game time is set for 7 p.m. CST. They will then return home for another conference opponent when they host the Bulls of South Florida on Sunday, September 17th at 1p.m. Echles Field is the site.
