Memphis, Tenn.-- - The University of Memphis men's tennis team (13-12, 0-2) finished its home season in style, with a 6-1 win over NAIA No. 4 Oklahoma Christian at The Racquet Club, Saturday. The win stretches the Tiger winning streak to seven consecutive matches, dating back to March 16th.
Memphis again opened strong in the doubles portion of the match, winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches before moving on to win five of the six singles matches.
Junior Alistair Todd battled to win his No. 3 singles match, winning the opening set 7-6 before falling 4-6 in the second. Todd won the third set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, for his 10th singles victory this season.
The Tigers were not so fortunate in a three-set nail-biter at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Richard Magney won his opening set 7-6, but fell in two strongly contested matches 7-5, 7-6, to OCU's Dante Magnoni.
The Tigers will test their momentum against two conference USA foes this weekend. Memphis plays No. 67 DePaul University at 2 p.m., Saturday in St. Louis before facing the host Billikens at 9 a.m., Sunday. Those will be the final regular season matches for Memphis before travelling to Hattiesburg for the C-USA Men's Championship Tournament, Apr. 13-15.
