MEMPHIS, TN - Pat Meyer, who came to The University of Memphis as a graduate assistant in the football department in 1997 and worked his way to the assistant strength coach's position, has been hired as the head strength coach for the athletic department. Meyer replaces Todd Stroud who took a similar position at North Carolina State.
Meyer, who served for one season as a graduate assistant on head coach Rip Scherer's staff and one season as the interim tight end coach under Scherer, was hired on a full-time basis as the assistant strength and conditioning coach in 1998.
The Ohio native is now responsible for the day-to-day training regiment of the Tiger football team. He will oversee a staff of two assistant strength coaches and two weight training facilities. Last season Meyer worked with the Tiger football and basketball teams and was responsible for training the Tiger baseball team.
Meyer came to the Memphis program after playing for the St. Louis Stampede in 1996 in the Arena Football League. A former offensive lineman, Meyer was a three-time all-WAC performer at Colorado State University and participated in the Arizona Cardinals training camp in 1995.
As a player at Colorado State, Meyer was a three-time academic all-WAC award winner and an Hitachi Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship recipient. During his time at CSU, he played for former Tiger co-offensive coordinator and line coach Dave Magazu. Meyer earned his B.S. degree in exercise sport sciences from Colorado State in 1995.
Meyer is from Girard, Ohio, where he was an all-Ohio football player for Girard High School.
The workout specialist is married to the former Erin Chuey.
