MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Kelly Wise scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds Wednesday night as Memphis ran away from Tulane 77-49.
Memphis (13-15, 6-9 Conference USA) led by as many as 31 in the second half, and Tulane never got closer than 20 in the final 18 minutes.
Poor shooting plagued the Green Wave (18-9, 7-8) all night. Tulane shot 26.1 percent from the field, but with just over 15 minutes left, the percentage dropped under 10 percent. At the time, the Green Wave was hitting only 4-of-41 from the field.
Wise connected on 10-of-11 shots from the field and 4-of-5 free throws. Senior Keiron Shine, one of three players appearing in their final game for the Tigers, had 12 as Memphis interim coach Johnny Jones substituted freely.
Ledaryl Billingsley was the only Tulane player in double figures with 12, all in the second half.
Memphis broke open the game with 17 unanswered points midway through the first half. The run extended an 8-7 Memphis lead to 25-7. The final two baskets came on dunks by Wise, who had 14 before halftime.
During the Memphis sequence, the Green Wave went about eight minutes without scoring. Tulane hit a frigid 12.1 percent from the field on 4-of-33 shooting. Sterling Davis, Tulane's leading scorer, was 1-of-9 from the field in the half and 2-of-11 for the game.
The second half was a continuation of the first, although the Green Wave did hit 38.9 percent in the second period.
