MIAMI (AP) - Backup guard Joe Gordon scored 16 points to help Miami rally to beat Memphis 66-57 Thursday night.
Memphis (4-7) opened the game with a 10-0 run and lead the Hurricanes (6-3) 26-23 at halftime. Miami then opened the second half with a 25-7 run that began and ended with three-pointers by James Jones.
Miami's fortunes turned when it switched from a man-to-man to zone defense, forcing Memphis (4-7) to shoot just 28 percent from the field, a season-low allowed by Miami.
A pair of free throws by Gordon gave Miami its biggest margin of the game at 52-34.
But Memphis rallied behind Shannon Forman's 16 points and closed the gap to 53-48 with just over four minutes to play. Kelly Wise added 10 points and 21 rebounds. Syrone Chatman scored 12 points.
Miami missed its first six shots before Gordon made a layup at 5:06 and made just two of its first 12 shots. Gordon made two 3-pointer while scoring 10 of the Hurricanes first 15 points.
In the final minute of the first half, Miami pulled within 23-21 on Jones' layup. Memphis, which had gone 6:05 without a basket, ended its drought on Foreman's 3-point basket.
Miami turned the ball over 10 times in the half, but enjoyed a 29-17 rebounding advantage.
John Salmons scored 14 points for Miami and Jones added 13.
