
Kelly Wise Leads Memphis Past South Florida, 78-74

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Center Kelly Wise scored 27 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots Wednesday night to lead Memphis to a 78-74 victory over South Florida.
Wise connected on 12-of-19 shots from the field for the Tigers (8-8, 1-2 Conference USA) and hit two free throws with 25.7 seconds left to extend the Memphis lead to 77-74.
Courtney Trask added 24 points and seven assists for the Tigers.
B.B. Waldon scored a game-high 29 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the Bulls (9-5, 1-1).
Altron Jackson came off the bench for 16 points and 10 rebounds, plus three blocks, while Scott Johnson finished with 13 points.
Memphis held a 62-55 lead with 11:42 left when Earl Barron hit a 5-foot hook. South Florida erased the Tigers' advantage with 10 straight points, taking a 65-62 lead on a basket by Marlon Dawson with 9:02 remaining.
It was the Bulls' first lead since the 12:08 mark of the first half.
Memphis regained the lead on a 3-point play by Trask with just under six minutes to play. It was the start of a 7-0 run that pushed the Tigers on top 73-68.
The Bulls battled back, pulling within 75-74 when Waldon hit the second of two free throws with 45.8 seconds remaining.
Wise's two free throws with 25.7 seconds left and a free throw by Barron with just 10.7 seconds gave Memphis its final 4-point margin.
