MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis (7-11, 1-4) Tigers battled back in the second game from a 14-9 deficit to win 16-14, but were unable to maintain the emotion and momentum of the moment, dropping the next two games in their sixth consecutive loss to Tennessee (10-7, 3-1) in the first meeting of the two schools since 1990.
Tennessee came out and hit .462 in the first game, downing 14 kills with just two hitting errors in a 15-6 win. The Lady Vols regrouped, hitting .349 in the third game while Memphis hit .135, committing 11 hitting errors to Tennessee's three errors.
Four Tigers hit double-digit kills: Rosie Glenn with 13, Ginger Garrett with 12, Lindsay Bax with 11 and Sarah Wengler with 10.
Jennifer Elliott led the Lady Vols with 17 kills and 20 digs.
