Tonya Gibbs

Tonya Gibbs joined the Memphis Athletic Department in Nov. 2023 and serves as the Associate Director of Stewardship & Engagement. 
In her current role, Gibbs oversees all aspects of premium hospitality operations for football and basketball game days. She also coordinates suite and tent setup, manages caters and bartenders and ensures a timely deliver of supplies. She also assists in 901Women events like the Power of Girls In Sports Clinic while also developing and executing donor stewardship plans for the Memphis ASCEND campaign.
In addition, Gibbs has managed donor appreciation efforts, including custom Nike gear orders and branded merchandise distribution, along with creating marketing and communication efforts for major gift societies and annual fund initiatives, including the creation of a digital monthly newsletter for Memphis Athletic Fund donors and stewardship elements during Annual Fund renewals tied to a $6 million dollar budget.Â
Previously, Gibbs was a Development Coordinator at Porter-Leath, a nonprofit committed to serving children and families in the mid-south region. During her time there, she organized and entered donations, printed and assigned hospitality thank you letters to coworkers for signage and mailing in a timely manner. She worked numerous staff and fundraising events, including the To-Go Crawfish and Crawfish Festival, Toy Truck Drive, Preschool Academy Grand Openings and end of fiscal year staff socials. She also organized event supply inventory and created new Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival merchandise for patrons to purchase.Â
She was also tasked with creating and distributing volunteer spreadsheets and creating and editing sponsor appreciations, event schedule, social media content and company website displays for event themes.Â
As a member of the Memphis Athletics staff, Gibbs currently serves as an internal planning committee member of 901Women, has served as a March Madness Team Liaison in 2023 and holds a Certification in Association Digital Marketing.Â
Gibbs, a Memphis native, holds a bachelor's degree in event management with a minor in marketing from the University of Memphis.Â
Gibbs' parents met at the University of Memphis and both of her brothers went to schools in the Bluff City, attending Christian Brothers University and Rhodes College, respectively.Â
Gibbs enjoys walking at Shelby Farms, reading, watching football, customizing Nike shoes and is obsessed with her niece and nephews.Â
