Ted Bartels

Ted Bartels has made an immediate impact since he joined the Memphis women's soccer program as the volunteer assistant coach in 2018. He was elevated to an Assistant Coach prior to the 2023 season.
It is no coincidence that his eight seasons with the program have coincided with the best run in the schools's history. Memphis' cumulative record is 117-21-16 since 2018, including seven conference championships and seven NCAA Tournament appearances. The Tigers have received the American Conference Staff of the Year award three times since the Memphis native joined the team (2019, 2023, 2025).

Bartels, the son of former University of Memphis men's coach Chris Bartels, joined the Memphis staff with valuable playing and coaching experience that has directly translated toward the success of the Tigers. In addition to his coaching duties, Bartels also serves as the executive director for soccer club Germantown Legends, where he oversees all soccer and business operations. Serving in this position since 2021, he manages the four annual tournaments hosted by the club and spearheads all expansion initiatives.
He was the head coach at Germantown High School from 2013-16 as well as an assistant coach for the Southwest Tennessee Community College women's team from 2017-18.

In addition to his coaching experience, Bartels was a member of the Winthrop University men's team in 2006-10. In 2010, he was named to the UNCW Classic All-Tournament team. Bartels also spent his club days competing in Memphis for MFC with experience playing in Poland, Denmark and England.

From 2003-06, Bartels played for Briarcrest where he scored 50 goals and was a three-time All-Region and two-time All-State selection. He also played for the Tennessee State ODP for five years.
