In January of 2018, Scott Shipman joined the University of Memphis staff as the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning. In his role, Shipman assists in developing the strength and conditioning plans for Olympic sports, specifically baseball, and men’s and women’s soccer.
Shipman also coordinates the continuing education for student-volunteers and interns in conjunction with Memphis Athletic Performance staff.
Prior to joining the Tigers staff, Shipman worked with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization and their minor league affiliates. He served in the role of director of strength and conditioning with the Hillsboro Hops, the Diamondbacks Short Season Low-A team.
Before working with the Diamondbacks organization, Shipman worked with Texas Christian University (2016), serving as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach. At TCU, he worked with the baseball, tennis, track & field, and football teams. He earlier served as an intern strength and conditioning coach at USF (2015). He spent a year with Stetson University as a full-time strength and conditioning coordinator, handling programming for baseball, soccer, softball and football.
A native of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Shipman was a pitcher for the baseball team at Augusta University from 2010-2013. He graduated from Augusta University with two degrees, first with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science, and then with a Master of Science in Kinesiology. He also served Augusta as a graduate assistant working with baseball from 2013-15.
Shipman currently holds certifications with NSCAand USAW. He has earned Level I certification regarding Functional Movement Systems and Functional Range Conditioning.
