Discounted Tickets - Faculty/staff
The Internal Revenue Code (Section 1.61-21[5]) provides that discounts to employees that exceed 20% for goods and/or services are taxable as compensation to employees and must be reported for tax purposes. The Internal Revenue Service is applying the 20% discount rule to the sale of tickets to athletic events. Faculty and staff receive a discount of 50% off the regular price of season tickets; therefore, as required by law, 30% of the regular price will be reported on the employee’s W-2 form as taxable income.

Frequently Asked Questions |
Do I have to join the Tiger Scholarship Fund (TSF) to purchase football season tickets?
No, the choice is yours, but TSF members at the $100 level and above receive discounted pricing, the TSF 901 Club Discount Card, special on-field events, priority access to the Spring Game annual sale and more.
Â
What does the $100 donation go towards?
Your dollars go exclusively towards scholarship costs for our almost 400 student-athletes. This past year, the scholarship bill paid to the University of Memphis was approximately $8 million.
Â
Does this $100 donation count towards my men's basketball or football per-seat donation requirement?
Yes, and vice-versa. If you are donating to TSF for your men’s basketball or football season tickets, the amount of that donation could also qualify you for the TSF discount football pricing.
Â
Is the $100 TSF donation tax-deductible and when is it due?
Like all donations, we suggest you consult with your accountant, but in most cases your donation to TSF is tax-deductible at 80%. Tiger Scholarship Fund donations are due on May 15th each year.
Â
I am currently a premium chair back season ticket holder; do I have to pay the $100 TSF donation on top of my per-seat donation?
This is not required. However, to receive the benefits at the $100 level, including the TSF 901 Cub discount card, you would need to donate at least $100 to TSF, including any required seat donation you are currently paying. Example: you have two seats in section 118, which requires a donation of $25 per seat. To reach the $100 level and be eligible for the benefits, you would need to increase your donation by $50. However, if you had four seats in that same section and were already paying $100 (4 seats times $25 per seat), you would already meet the required donation minimums.
Â
How many season tickets are covered under the $100 TSF donation?
This $100 donation covers a discount for up to six seats. For every seat above the six, an additional $25 donation to TSF is required to receive the discount.
Â
Is this a reseating? If I currently have seats, do I still get those for the 2017 season?
This is NOT a re-seating and as long as you renew your season tickets by June 1, you can retain the exact same seats as last season.
Â
What if I don't want to pay a donation?
A donation is NOT required. Simply choose the public season ticket price and make your payment by the June 1 season ticket deadline.
Â
When do I have to pay for my seats and my donation?
The deadline to ensure that your seats are available is June 1. After June 1, seats that have not been renewed will be available for sale. We ask that all donations be paid by May 15th.
Â
I would like to sit in the premium chair back section. How do I upgrade my current seat location to the chair backs?
To make any change to your current seating location, please call 901-678-2331 and speak to a friendly ticket representative that will be more than happy to walk you through the options to best meet your needs.
Â
I have never been a member of the Tiger Scholarship Fund. Do I receive donor benefits with my per seat donation?
Absolutely. The $100 level entitles you to membership in the 901 Club, which includes season ticket discounted pricing, a 901 discount card (good for deals with various businesses throughout the community), discounted access to the TSF Tailgate Experience in the Pipkin Building, exclusive events, a dedicated window to shop the annual Spring Game sale, and more.
Â
What types of payments are accepted?
Cash, checks, credit cards, and monthly payments are accepted.
Â
Why are ticket prices going up?
After an extensive study completed by IMG/Learfield Ticketing Solutions, we discovered that Memphis had the lowest ticket prices in the entire American Athletic Conference. In order to continue to be competitive and compete for championships, Memphis will attempt to approach the mean price in the conference. The mean price in the conference is the sixth or seventh-ranked school in each price type. Even with these price changes for 2017, Memphis prices will still be ranked 11th in the conference.
Â
How do I join the 901 Club?
The 901 Club is now a benefit of being a Tiger Scholarship Fund (TSF) Member at the $100 or higher level. All of the benefits, including the 901 Club card, the season ticket discount, the special events, discounted entrance to the TSF Tailgate Experience at the Pipkin Building and more are reserved at this membership level.
Â
How do Memphis prices compare to the other schools in the AAC?
In the three comparable seating areas, Memphis is tied with one other school as the least expensive tickets in the conference.
Methodology: Rank the conference schools from 1 to 12 in each of the three main price levels of season tickets, with the highest-priced school getting one point and the lowest-priced school receiving 12 points. Add the three categories together for the total score.Â
