MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Athletics proudly announces the naming of its outdoor track as the Hulet & Jacqueline Gregory Track, in recognition of a generous $1 million gift from the Gregory family in support of the Liza Wellford Fletcher Stadium renovation and the Tiger Track & Field program.
The Gregory's generosity marks a significant milestone in the campaign to renovate the facility named in honor of beloved Memphis alumna and avid runner, Liza Fletcher. Their gift, driven by a deep passion for running and a desire to help complete a meaningful and important project, underscores their commitment to both Memphis Athletics and the community it serves.
"We are fortunate for the generosity and leadership of Hulet and Jacqueline Gregory," Senior Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Scott, Ph.D. said. "This transformative gift towards the Liza Wellford Fletcher Stadium project marks another milestone moment for our athletic department. The new soccer and track and field stadium will not only enhance the experience for our student-athletes and fans, but it will also serve as a powerful reminder of what's possible when community and vision come together."
A lifelong runner, Hulet's love of the sport led the family to found Marathon Management, a full-service property management company dedicated to helping owners reach their investment goals. That same passion is now fueling a new era for Tiger Track & Field.
"Our gift to the University of Memphis Track and Field program is a reflection of our deep-rooted connection to this incredible institution and its students," said Mr. Gregory. "Running has always been more than a sport for my wife Jacqueline and I—it's been a source of health and fitness, discipline, and community. Supporting the Liza Wellford Fletcher Stadium renovation and naming the track in our family's honor is a deeply personal way for us to give back to the city and university that have given us so much.
"We're proud to be part of a project that honors Liza's legacy and helps create a space where future generations can grow, compete, and thrive."
The renovation of Liza Wellford Fletcher Stadium aims to modernize facilities, enhance the student-athlete experience and create a space that honors Liza's memory and enduring spirit. Naming the track for the Gregory's ensures their legacy will be intertwined with the ongoing commitment to excellence and perseverance by the University of Memphis.
A formal track dedication will take place upon the stadium's completion, marking a special moment in the continued advancement of Memphis Athletics and the celebration of Liza's lasting legacy.
