GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to open American Athletic Conference action at preseason favorite East Carolina with a three-game weekend series at Lewis Field at Clark LeClair Stadium, beginning Friday evening.
All three games can be streamed live on ESPN+. Friday's first pitch is slated for 5 p.m. with Saturday's game scheduled for 3 p.m. and Sunday's finale set for 11 a.m. (all times CT).
Lewis Field will play host to the 69th, 70th and 71st all-time meetings between the two programs, with the Pirates leading the all-time series, 49-19. Memphis will be aiming for its first win over East Carolina since defeating the No. 9 Pirates in the AAC Tournament in 2021.
Memphis (11-9) is coming off a one-run, extra-inning loss at Lipscomb on Wednesday afternoon while East Carolina (12-9) dropped its Tuesday game vs. UNCW, 9-4.
The Tigers will roll out RHP Seth Garner (2-1, 4.33 ERA, 21 K / 5 BB) on Friday night with starters to be announced later for Saturday and Sunday.
East Carolina will counter with back-to-back AAC Pitcher of the Week, lefty Ethan Norby (2-2, 2.32 ERA) on Friday night, with Saturday and Sunday's starters to be announced later.
The Pirates are led offensively by Dixon Williams (.333 AVG. / 6 HR / 17 RBI / 11 SB), Braden Burress (.367 AVG. / 1 HR / 9 RBI / 7 SB) and Walker Barron (.301 AVG. / 2 HR / 11 RBI).
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 21 through the season's first 20 games and rank sixth nationally and lead The American in that category.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight to the start of the season, combining for a 3.88 ERA (176.1 IP) to lead The American and rank 36th nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 92.0 of those innings and has given up just 29 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 2.84.
Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton is one of seven catchers nationally who has thrown out 10-plus runners. Sutton is tied for third in the country (11) with Charlotte catcher Logan Poteet - one shy of the national lead.
