Lavin Garners Third Defensive Player of the Week Honor
Oct 06, 2025 | Women's Soccer
IRVING, Texas – Memphis defender and captain Finley Lavin earned American Conference Defender of the Week on Monday afternoon, her third such honor this season.
Lavin, the 2024 Defender of the Year in the conference, received the nod thanks in part to her attacking output, as she buried her first ever penalty attempt at Tulsa last Thursday in what was the game's only goal.
The Jarrettsville, Maryland, native anchored the backline to their ninth shutout in 12 games, the second-most in all of Division-I this season. Their goals-against average of 0.33 is good for fourth lowest in the nation.
Lavin and the ninth-ranked Tigers will play at home twice this week, hosting North Texas on Thursday, October 9, and Florida Atlantic on Sunday, October 12.
