MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis basketball teams will be back on the hardwood soon, and to help celebrate the start of the 2024-25 season, the athletics department has announced a new tipoff event – the Blue and Gray Showcase, which is set for Friday, October 4 at 6 p.m. inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m.
The showcase will be open to UofM students and the general public, and free tickets can be claimed, beginning at 8 a.m. Friday (Sept. 27). There will be no live stream of the event. Geared towards bringing the buzz to campus, the Blue and Gray Showcase will make its debut one month before the season opens. There will be free pizza, a t-shirt giveaway and $2 drink specials once you enter the fieldhouse.
Both men's and women's basketball teams will be introduced and participate in intrasquad scrimmages. Additionally, the 90-minute event will feature a skills and 3-point competition, student giveaways and performances from the pep band, pom squad and cheer.
"We are excited to officially kick off basketball season with the Blue and Gray Showcase," said University of Memphis Senior Vice President and Director of Athletics, Ed Scott, Ph.D. "It will be an entertaining night filled with competition and giveaways while providing Tiger Nation with their first look at this year's teams.
"This new format will engage our students and fan base, while bringing excitement to the heart of campus as we prepare for a great year of Memphis Basketball."
Amongst the giveaways for students will be 100 tickets to the Hoops for St. Jude Tip-Off Classic on Oct. 15 at FedExForum that will see men's basketball take on North Carolina at 6 p.m. and women's basketball take on reigning national champion South Carolina at 8:30 p.m.
There will also be a halfcourt shot to win $5,000 for one lucky student.
Parking will be free in the Zach Curlin parking garage connected to the Fieldhouse, as space allows. Additional spots will be available throughout campus. No outside food or beverage is allowed.
