Aug 28, 2024 | General
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Sports Hall of Fame class of 2024 will include five former University of Memphis student-athletes and coaches. Dick Fadgen, Jarvis Greer, Andy Roberts, Regina Street and Andre Turner will be the newest Tiger alum in the Memphis Sports Hall of Fame.
Fadgen founded the University of Memphis' first varsity swimming program in 1970. Rebranded to the Memphis Tigers Swimming Club, it remains the longest-active swim club in the city. The Dick Fadgen Pool at the Mike Rose Aquatic Center was named in his honor in 2023.
Greer was a two-time letter winner for Memphis football, playing defensive back in 1976 and 1977. He covered Memphis sports for 43 years as a part of Action News 5, serving as sports director from 1991 until his retirement in 2022. He is a member of the Tigers' football broadcast team and is a contributor to Grind City Media.
Roberts played racquetball at Memphis, winning three singles and two doubles crowns and helping the Tigers to two National Intercollegiate Championships in 1984 and 1985. After his Memphis tenure, Roberts won national championships in singles and doubles competition and was a four-time USRA Athlete of the Year.
Street played women's basketball for the Tigers from 1981-85. She is the all-time leading shot-blocker in school history and ranks second and sixth all-time in rebounds and points, respectively. A Memphis native, Street's 65 double-doubles rank 26th in NCAA history, and she is one of 175 players to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Turner was the starting point guard on the 1985 men's basketball team that reached the NCAA Final Four. He holds the all-time assist record for the Tigers and ranks 14th in career points. He played six seasons in the NBA and joined Penny Hardaway's Memphis staff in the summer of 2024.
