253 Memphis Student-Athletes Named to AAC All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas – The University of Memphis athletics' success in the classroom continues as the American Athletic Conference (AAC) announced its 2023-24 All-Academic Team on Friday, with 253 Tiger student-athletes earning academic honors.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the AAC's member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The American's 3,532 All-Academic selections shatters the previous conference record of 3,299 selections from the 2019-20 season.
"Congratulations to all of our remarkable student-athletes who earned their place on the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team," said AAC Commissioner Tim Pernetti. "Our conference and its elite university membership keeps the true mission of education through sport in focus and emphasizes the balance of competing at the highest level in the classroom and in sport. We are so proud to have a record number of All-Academic selections, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our exceptional student-athletes."
The 253 AAC All-Academic honorees add to an already incredible 2023-24 year in the classroom for the Tigers. In June, Memphis Athletics announced a record-setting NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report with a 992 mark, which encompasses the 2019-20 through 2022-23 academic years. The Tigers' APR of 992 surpassed the NCAA benchmark of 985.
In addition, a record-breaking 13 teams earned a perfect single-year APR score of 1,000 in 2022-23, surpassing the department's previous record of 10 set twice in the last four years.
This past spring, Memphis student-athletes set the all-time departmental grade point average record with a 3.395. It also marked the 22nd-consecutive term with a 3.0 or higher departmental GPA and was the fifth-straight semester with a 3.2 or higher GPA.
In the spring, the Tigers had 273 student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, 156 earn Dean's List honors (3.5 or higher) and 68 in the 4.0 GPA Club. A total of 16 programs posted a team GPA of 3.0 or better.
