MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team hits the road Tuesday for a midweek matchup with Ole Miss at Swayze Field in Oxford, Mississippi at 6:30 p.m. It will mark the first of two matchups between the Tigers and Rebels this season.
Swayze Field will play host to the 105th all-time meeting between the two teams, with the Rebels leading the series 64-40. The Tigers used back-to-back-to-back home runs in Oxford a season ago to rally back from a four-run deficit in the ninth inning to win 11-9 and split the season series. Tuesday's game will be available to stream on SEC Network+ as well as GoTigersGo.com with Jeff Brightwell on the radio call.
The Tigers (7-6) are coming off a 3-2 week including a home win over UT Martin on Wednesday and a series win over Wright State at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field over the weekend. Memphis took the Friday game 6-3 and defeated the Raiders 13-12 in walk-off fashion on Saturday to clinch the series before falling in the finale, 17-7, on Sunday.
Ole Miss (8-5) is coming off a home-series win over the Iowa Hawkeyes, taking the final two games of the series by scores of 12-5 and 8-3 at Swayze Field.
Tiger first baseman Jacob Compton was named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll for his performances last week, hitting .353 and slugging .882 while reaching base at a .500 clip. The senior from Olive Branch, Mississippi went 3-for-3 with a pair of bombs and drove in five runs to match his career-best total in Saturday's series-clinching win over Wright State. The American's 2022 RBI leader is tied for the conference lead with five home runs on the year and is fifth in the league with 31 total bases while his 12 RBI rank second on the team.
Tiger infielder Daunte Stuart is off to a hot start this season, batting .333 with a team-leading 14 RBI while scoring 17 runs to lead The American. Ole Miss is led offensively by Jackson Ross (.390 BA, 5 HR, 19 RBI) and Andrew Fischer (.293 BA, 5 HR, 14 RBI).
Memphis will go with right-handed pitcher Cade Davis (0-2, 12.00 ERA) for his third-straight Tuesday start while the Rebels will counter with right-hander Riley Maddox (0-1, 6.23 ERA).
