MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball inked a mid-season signee on Tuesday morning, with guard Liz Martino joining the Tigers. She will be eligible to play immediately.
Martino joins the Tigers from Nebraska-Omaha, where she last played in the 2022-23 for two games before a season-ending injury. The year prior, she played with Memphis guard Tilly Boler at Jackson State, averaging 7.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.1 assists for JSU team that went 21-10, 17-1 in the SWAC and lost in the first round of the NIT to Memphis, 79-68.
A native of Landham, Maryland, Martino spent her first two collegiate seasons at Rutgers, totaling 33 games played and averaging nine minutes per contest. She was a three-star recruit out of Riverdale Baptist and a 2019 McDonald's All-America Games nominee. On espnW Hoopgurlz, she was once ranked as high as No. 25 for the class of 2020.
Martino will join a guard room led by Boler (16.6 ppg, 1 apg), DeeDee Hagemann (16 ppg, 6 apg) and Tanyuel Welch (10.5 ppg, 2.8 apg). Taylor Barner, Ally Hollifield and Destyne Jackson have not played this season with injuries. Martino is now the fourth player on the roster who has played at a Power 4 school (Elauna Eaton - Arkansas/Ole Miss, Bailey Gilmore - Vanderbilt and Hagemann - Michigan State).
The Tigers will kick off their conference slate on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at home against Wichita State at 3:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
