MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis witnessed six programs record perfect Graduation Success Rate (GSR) scores in the NCAA's latest release. As a department, the Tigers earned an overall GSR of 92 percent which ranked fifth among American Athletic Conference (AAC) members.
In the NCAA's GSR report for the most recent 2017 cohort (2014-17), which calculates the rate at which student-athletes graduated within six years, Memphis' overall 92 percent GSR is above the Division I average of 91 percent, the memberships' highest rate recorded.
"The academic achievement of our student-athletes is paramount to the success of our athletic department," Senior Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Scott, Ph.D. said.
"We could not be prouder of the commitment to academic excellence our student-athletes have displayed. The hard work and dedication of our student-athletes and the Center for Athletic Academic Success staff has continued to elevate the University of Memphis' standing academically."
Memphis' men's tennis, softball, women's basketball, women's golf, women's tennis, and volleyball programs all led AAC institutions with a perfect 100 percent GSR. The women's tennis program earned a perfect 100 GSR for the 20th-consecutive cohort, since the data point's inception, women's golf has had 10-straight perfect marks, men's tennis recorded their eighth consecutive perfect score while the volleyball program achieved its fifth.
Overall, eight programs led the AAC in GSR as the Tiger football program achieved a record-high of 94 percent, which tied Navy for the highest rate in the conference. The men's soccer program also earned a 94 percent GSR leading the AAC along with FIU and Tulsa.
Memphis has now recorded a department GSR of at least 90 percent in seven-consecutive cohorts (2011-17).
