Aug 28, 2023 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following an outstanding start to the season where the Memphis Tiger men's soccer team captured two wins, three have been named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Awards List.
Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos, a junior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was named the Offensive Player of the Week after he recorded three goals over the two matches. He scored the team's first goal of the season in the 7' over Green Bay while assisting on an insurance goal. During the team's 3-1 win over NIU, Rodrigues dos Santos found the back of the net twice in route to his second career multi-goal match.
This the fifth AAC Weekly Award of his career.
Cesar Sancho, a 5th year senior from Toledo, Spain, anchored a Tiger back line to a shutout in their season opener against Green Bay while holding NIU to just six shots the entire match and only four shots on-goal in the 90 minutes.
This is the second AAC Weekly Award of Sancho's career.
Colin Welsh, a junior from Overland Park, Kan., picked up a pair of victories on opening weekend while making eight saves. Welsh, who got the solo shutout against Green Bay, did not allow a goal in his 169 minutes in the net.
This is Welch's sixth AAC Weekly Award honor.
