Tigers Picked First in AAC Preseason Rankings; Jones, Miller, Stordy Named to Watch List

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the second consecutive season, the Memphis Tiger women's soccer program has been picked as the preseason favorite following their second straight AAC Championship and third overall. The Tigers also placed three players on the American Athletic Conference's Preseason Watch List in Mya Jones, Saorla Miller and Grace Stordy.
The Tigers, who are coming off their second straight AAC Championship title, are the top pick in the West Division beating out SMU, who they defeated in the Championship match last season, while also being the conference favorite for winning the Tournament.
"It's humbling to be picked first, especially in such a competitive league," said head women's soccer coach Brooks Monaghan. "But, like I've said all preseason, potential is just a word unless the team can do their part to back it up."
Jones, Miller and Stordy are no strangers when it comes to preseason accolades with this being the first year of the conference naming a Preseason Watch List. All three, who will wear the captain armbands for Memphis this season, play a vital role is bringing the spark from last season into the new year.
"All three are deserving of this honor with the careers they've had and all three have been a big part of the program's success," said Monaghan. "While the conference only picked three names, we have a lot of very talented athletes that could've been named to the list."
