Simmons Signs Williamson for 2023-24 Season
May 31, 2023 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rounding out her first team at Memphis, head women's basketball coach Alex Simmons has added Latazia Williamson for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Williamson, a 6-1 post player from Nashville, Tenn., comes to the Bluff City after a stellar prep career at Hillsboro High School where she helped the Burros to two District Championships – including a perfect 10-0 mark in league play this season. The 2022-23 District MVP was also named as the Region MVP and was an All-State performer.
"Latazia has proven that she was one of the best high school athletes in Tennessee," said Simmons. "She is a two-sport athlete who will add athleticism and versatility to our post position. Her motor on the court will be tough and her defensive aggression will be extremely effective in our full-court defense. I am very excited for our staff to see Latazia's growth."
A BCAT All-Star, Williamson led her team to the Tennessee State Sectional game this past season and finished her prep career averaging a double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds) with just over four blocks per game.
