MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Head Memphis women's basketball coach Alex Simmons has hit the ground running since arriving in the Bluff City, bringing in Ki'Ari Cain for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Cain, a 5-6 guard out of Sumter, S.C., comes to Memphis after four seasons with Simmons at Gardner-Webb. The 2023 All-Big South selection has amassed 956 career points while dishing out nearly 430 assists in four years as a Runnin' Bulldog. This past season, Cain was first on the team with 161 assists and fourth on the team in scoring.
"Ki is the epitome of a high level, high basketball IQ point guard," said Simmons. "Not only is she the general on the court, but she also scores at all three levels all while being a terror on the ball. It's rare when you can have such a dynamic point guard who is a sponge for the game of basketball, and I can't wait to get back on the court with Ki this season!"
During this past season, Cain helped her team to an NCAA Tournament appearance after going a. perfect 18-0 in Big South play, claiming the regular season and conference championship, and finished as the top ranking playing in the league in assist/turnover ratio (2.18), total assists (161) and assists per game (4.7).
In her 114 games with GWU, Cain etched her name in the program's career assists category with 426 while recording double figure scoring in 47 games.
