Tigers Sweep Weekend Matches to Begin AAC Play

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Memphis women's tennis got its American Athletic Conference slate started with a bang over the weekend, sweeping a pair of matches against Houston and Tulane in New Orleans.
Memphis opened the weekend with a 5-2 victory over the Cougars on Saturday before earning a 4-1 win Sunday against the Green Wave at home.
The Tigers improved to 4-9 overall and 2-0 in the AAC, while extending their win streak to three matches.
Memphis won the doubles point in both matches with Aran Teixido Garcia and Emily Meyer teaming up to earn two wins. They defeated Houston 7-5 to open the weekend before blanking Tulane 6-0 Sunday.
The duo also earned two singles victories each, giving them a 4-0 weekend.
Monique Woog had a solid weekend on the court as well, winning twice in the third position in singles and teaming up with Camila Soares to win 6-3 in doubles over the Cougars.
Freshman Micah Pierce brought home two straight-set victories in singles, winning 6-4, 6-4 on the sixth line Saturday against Houston before moving to No. 5 Sunday to win 6-4, 7-6 against Tulane.
The Tigers are back on the court next Friday when the visit Charlotte for a noon showdown.
