Tigers Take Down Bulls In AAC Opener

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Memphis Tigers men's tennis team got American Athletic Conference action started on a high note Saturday night, defeating South Florida 6-1 at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro.
The Tigers (2-2, 1-0 AAC) have now won back-to-back matches after starting the spring season with a pair of ranked defeats.
"Our team played very focused and with a lot of energy last night," Memphis head coach Paul Goebel said. "It was nice to get the first American conference win under our belt and we are excited to carry this momentum into our Oklahoma match next Friday."
Memphis battled to wins on doubles courts two and three to earn the day's opening point. Harry Rock and Conor Gannon took a 6-2 decision on court two while Pablo Alemany and Pau Fanlo secured the point at the third position with a 6-4 victory.
Jeremy Taylor, Rock and Fanlo each earned sweeps in singles action at positions No. 4-6 to secure the Tiger victory.
No. 114 David Stevenson earned his first singles win of the spring on court two after battling from behind to take the point 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.
UP NEXT
The Tigers travel to Norman, Oklahoma next Friday (Feb. 10) to take on the (RV) University of Oklahoma. They will then get a little break before taking on Northwestern Feb. 24 in Evanston, Illinois.
