Tigers Host UCF for Saturday Afternoon Match-Up

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team will hit the court this Saturday when they host the Knights of UCF for the team's Senior Day.
Memphis (13-9, 5-4 AAC) is coming off a 70-60 win over Wichita State last Saturday where the Tigers used an explosive first quarter to get ahead of the Shockers. Memphis would never forfeit their lead behind 21 points from Jamirah Shutes and a team-high 12 rebounds from Hannah Riddick.
The Tigers would also get seven three-pointers from five different players while their defense held Wichita State to just 31% shooting from the field.
With less than a month left in the regular season, Memphis currently sits at #66 in the NET rankings while the team ranks first in the conference in free throw attempts and makes per game. Jamirah Shutes and Madison Griggs are also ranked at the top of the AAC; Shutes ranks first in total free throw attempts with 127 and makes with 92 while Griggs ranks at the top of the league in three-point shooting at 39.2% this season.
UCF (11-10, 2-7 AAC) is coming off their first win in nearly a month after taking the 60-57 win at Cincinnati on Wednesday night. It would come down to the final seconds of the game where the Bearcats would heave up a shot at the last second to tie the game. The Knights would come away with the win – breaking their four-game losing skid.
For the season, Thomas leads the Knights with 11.6 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while Laila Jewett is adding in just over nine points per game.
Last season when Memphis and UCF met, the Knights would use a defensive strong second quarter to hold the Tigers to just five points. Alana Davis and Madison Griggs led the team, offensively, with 16 and 13 points, respectively, while the team won the battle on the boards.
