MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis Tigers women's soccer team has placed four student-athletes on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American list.
Mya Jones, Momo Nakao and Haylee Spray were all named to the First Team while Saorla Miller was named to the Second Team.
"These four young ladies have truly defined what being a successful student-athlete is all about," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "Not only have they performed at the highest level on the field, but they have also continued to excel in the classroom, and I couldn't be prouder. All four are very deserving of all the accolades they have received."
Jones (Health Sciences, 3.97), a fifth-year senior out of Calgary, Alberta, had an outstanding season where she was named to the AAC's All-Conference First Team, was selected as the AAC's Offensive Player of the Year and was a United Soccer Coaches All-South Region honoree. Jones, who was second on the team with 11 goals, finished the season with a team-best 33 points.
Nakao (Sport and Leisure Management, 3.52), a junior from Inzai City, Chiba, Japan, was named as the AAC's Midfielder of the Year following six-goal season while assisting on another five. Nakao, who was also selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team, notched four game-winning goals this season – including the strike in the 3' against LSU in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
Spray (Marketing Management, 4.00), a senior out of Allen, Texas, was named as the AAC's Co-Defensive Player of the Year after she helped hold down a Tiger backline that recorded 12 shutouts during the season while holding conference opponents to single-digit shots in seven of the nine matchups. Spray, along with the rest of the Memphis defense, held AAC opponents to just five goals during the regular season.
Miller (Biomedical Engineering & Math, 3.99), a fifth-year senior form Halifax, Nova Scotia, marked her final year in the Memphis Blue with a team-leading 12 goals with six of them serving as game-winning goals. The AAC All-Conference First Team honoree was a four-time Weekly Awards selection this season while also being picked to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team.
Selections to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American list must be at least a junior who have been with the team for the last two seasons and have a minimum 3.40 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout their career.
