OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 52 Memphis Tiger women's tennis team fell 5-2 on the road Wednesday night at No. 51 Ole Miss.
It was a tough night for the Tigers (0-3) on the court as the Rebels swept the doubles match and then took four of the first five singles to secure the win.
Emily Meyer was the first Tiger to pick up a victory at the No. 4 singles position as she swept Ole Miss' Kelsey Mize 6-2, 6-1.
In the top spot, Aran Teixidó Garcia won a hard-fought battle in a tiebreaker in the first set, 7-6 (9-7) before using the momentum to sweep the match 6-2 in the second set.
The Rebels (3-0) won the other four singles in straight sets.
"We didn't bring the same energy we've had so far this year and that was a major factor in today's result," head coach Hayden Perez said. "We have to bring it every match this year, period.
"I'm looking forward to our next trip and seeing how the girls respond to a loss like this, GTG."
UP NEXT
The Tigers take their road swing west to the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Malibu, California on the campus of Pepperdine. They will open play Saturday against No. 55 Columbia before taking on either No. 10 Pepperdine or No. 63 Clemson Sunday on the final day of action.
