Cross Country Opens Season at Auto City Memphis Twilight XC Classic
Sep 03, 2022 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis men's and women's cross country teams will begin the 2022 season Saturday night in Memphis at the Auto City Twilight Classic. This is their 11th consecutive year opening the season at the race.
The meet will be held at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex, where the women's 5k will kickoff at 9:20 p.m. and men's team will follow in the four-mile run at 10 p.m.
The course takes multiple loops around the complex, and athletes will finish in the 6000-seat Mike Rose Stadium.
"Both teams are looking forward to racing this Saturday at the Memphis Twilight," cross country coach Ken Frenette said. "We look at this meet as an opportunity to gauge our current fitness level and to continue from there as our starting point."
Most athletes on the men's and women's teams will be competing, including several returnees.
"I think overall both the men's and women's teams have put in the miles this summer, so I am excited to see them race," Frenette said. "The top women returnees for us are Chloe Figgins, Lauren Metzger and Hannah Anderson. On the men's side, I would say three of our fifth-year seniors (Payton Gleason, Zach Wyatt and Tate Wyatt) should be in the thick of it."
Competing Teams
Arkansas Tech, ASU- Mountain Home, Brescia, Christian Brothers, Fontbonne, Harding, LeMoyne-Owen, Lyon, Memphis, MTSU, Mississippi State, Mississippi Valley, Mizzou Running Club, Ole Miss, UT- Martin, UA-Fort Smith, Union and Williams Baptist.
