MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a 2-0 week, the Memphis Tiger women's soccer team has found two of their own among the American Athletic Conference Weekly Awards list as Momo Nakao claimed Offensive Player of the Week while Sarah Bozeman was dubbed as the Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Nakao, a sophomore from Inzai City, Chiba, Japan, scored two goals last week that both ended up being game-winning goals. She opened the week against Iowa State when, in the 11', Saorla Miller found her open deep in the box and she connected with the back of the net. Nakao would take it herself in the team's match at UAB when she found herself with the ball deep in the box after a Blazer's player deflected the ball on a clear for the easy finish.
This is the first AAC Weekly Award for Nakao this season and the second in her career.
Bozeman, a freshman from O'Fallon, MO., got her first taste of collegiate soccer this week when she made her debut against Iowa State. She recorded the shutout with two saves against the Cyclones while getting the win over UAB with two saves. She would allow just one goal in 180 minutes of work while facing 14 shots.
This is the first AAC Weekly Award for Bozeman this season and the first in her career.
Memphis (3-1-0) is back in action this weekend when they head east to take on Louisville and #8 Virginia this Thursday and Sunday, respectively. Thursday's match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kick-off while Sunday's start time is set for 5 p.m. Coverage of Sunday's game against the Cavaliers can be found on ACC Network.
