MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Laird Veatch has announced the hirings of three Associate Athletic Directors to lead key areas of athletic department operations.
Brendan Dwyer has been named Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Facilities and Operations, Harley King has been hired as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, and Michael Schroeder has been named Associate Athletic Director for Integrated Communications.
"We are extremely pleased to add these leadership roles and experienced professionals to our athletic department," Veatch said. "Each of these individuals has proven experience and comes highly regarded by peers within intercollegiate athletics. Our athletic administration continues to grow and evolve as we strive to elevate our department and provide best-in-class services for our student-athletes and fans, and we have no doubt that Brendan, Harley and Michael will lead their departments towards these goals."
Dwyer comes to Memphis following two-and-a-half years as Senior Director of Facilities and Events at UAB, where he oversaw all athletic facilities and athletic grounds as well as gameday operations for all sports. He participated in all capital projects, new construction and short- and long-range improvements and was a member of the athletic department's Senior Staff. Prior to moving to Birmingham, he served as Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Facilities at Ole Miss in 2019 after spending two-and-a-half years as Arena Manager for The Pavilion at Ole Miss.
Dwyer earned his bachelor's degree in Communications from East Carolina University in 2005 and his master's degree in Sport Management from ECU in 2007. Additional career stops included serving as Operations Manager at American University from 2009-11 and Associate Director of Event Management at the University of Georgia from 2011-16.
King arrives in Memphis after three-plus years at Bowling Green State University, first as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and then as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. At Bowling Green, he was responsible for all areas of institutional compliance operations for 18 sports and over 425 student-athletes, and he provided comprehensive rules education programming and legislative interpretations for coaches, staff, administrators, student-athletes and constituents on and off campus. He also served as the sport administrator for Bowling Green's men's and women's soccer programs and served on the department's Senior and Executive Staffs.
King graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management in 2007 and earned his master's degree in Recreation and Sport Sciences from Ohio University in 2009. His career has also included compliance roles at Ohio (2007-09) and West Virginia University (2009-19).
Schroeder, who joined the Memphis Athletic Department in Dec. 2020, adds oversight of marketing, gameday presentation and digital media to his current responsibilities with communications, social media and Name, Image and Likeness. He and his team are responsible for publicity and promotion of Tiger student-athletes and teams and the fan experience at events, and he also works closely with all aspects of revenue generation for the department including ticket sales and development.
Schroeder earned his bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Illinois in 2009 and his master's degree in Athletic Administration from Western Kentucky University in 2011, where he also worked seven years including time as Associate Athletic Director for Communications. He worked five seasons in professional baseball after WKU, first as Director of Public Relations for the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds from 2016-19 and then in a communications and baseball operations role at the Triple-A Pacific Coast League in 2020.
