Gartman and Compton Named First Team All-Conference, Gartman Named AAC Newcomer Pitcher of the Year

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Two Memphis Tigers earned All-Conference honors after Memphis finished the regular season strong, as both RHP Landon Gartman and DH Jacob Compton were named First Team All-Conference. Gartman was the lone unanimous selection among the First Team, while the right-handed starter was also named the conference's Newcomer Pitcher of the Year.
Coming off of one of his best starts of the season, Gartman finished the regular season 6-1 with a 3.53 ERA over 14 appearances, 12 starts. He capped off his impressive campaign with a victory over Tulane Thursday where he allowed only one man to reach base and struck out 10 over five innings. Additionally, Gartman fired eight no-hit innings earlier this season against East Carolina here he also struck out 10. Gartman finished the regular season with 88 strikeouts and only 26 walks in 79 innings. He earned Pitcher of the Week honors in the final week of the regular season and was twice named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll. His .177 opponents' batting average and six wins both led the Tigers.
Also new to the Tigers for the 2022 season, Compton had a tremendous first year in the AAC. Twice named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll, Compton finished the regular season with a .289 batting average and team-best nine home runs and 52 RBIs, the second most RBIs among AAC hitters. Compton played in all 52 games this season for Memphis, with starts in 50 of the 52. He led the conference with 17 doubles and finished first or second for the Tigers in nearly every offensive category.
Memphis opens the AAC Tournament Tuesday in Clearwater, Fla. The Tigers will begin tournament play at 3 p.m. vs. #2 UCF.
