MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's tennis team ventured west over the weekend and went 2-1 with wins at Kansas State and against South Dakota and a loss at Nebraska.

The Tigers are now 7-2 this season.

"It was a great weekend for the Tigers, and I am super proud of this group," head coach Hayden Perez said. "We faced some adversity and learned a lot about ourselves this weekend. We cannot wait to go to Tuscaloosa next weekend for a pair of tough matches."

Memphis' Friday win over Kansas State came down to the final singles point. Camila Soares dropped the first set, 6-4, but battled back to win the next two and claim the match for Memphis. Also against the Wildcats, freshman Emily Meyer won her singles match to move to 6-0 to start her collegiate career.

The Tigers lost the doubles point against South Dakota Saturday in Lincoln, Neb., but swept four singles points to take the match. Monique Woog, Meredith Jones, Alisha Reayer and Soares all won in straight sets.

Aran Teixido Garcia had a successful day Sunday at Nebraska, winning her doubles match alongside partner Soares and then picking up a 6-2, 6-2 win in the second singles position.

The Tigers are back in action next weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala., playing Alabama Friday and Minnesota Saturday.
