Tiger Host Miami (OH), Travel to SIUE

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team will finish out their season opening home stand when they host Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday evening before hitting the road for the first time this season when the team makes the trip up to Illinois to face-off with Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Saturday afternoon.
Memphis (1-1) is coming off a dominating win over Howard that saw the Tigers record 55 points in the opening half and cross the century mark for the 101-54 win. Maddie Griggs and Jamirah Shutes led the charge, offensively, with 18 points each while Makaiya Brooks came off the bench and drained four three-pointers in 70 seconds to give the Tigers an early first quarter lead.
Following the first two games of the season, Griggs, Shutes and Emani Jefferson lead the team with double-digit scoring while Jefferson and Aliyah Green are grabbing a combined 12.5 rebounds per game.
Miami (1-1) is coming off their first win of the season after scrapping by Vermont with a 79-73 win. Maddi Cluse led all scorers with 30 points while Ivy Wolf, Amani Freeman and Sierra Morrow all reached double-figure scoring in the win over the Catamounts.
Cluse is leading the team in scoring following their opening week, averaging 27.0 points and 8.5 rebounds.
This will be the first meeting between Memphis and Miami in the program's history.
SIUE (0-2) had a rough opening week after dropping back-to-back games against Saint Louis and Eastern Michigan. Niya Danfort led the team last week with 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while Destine Duckworth added in 8.0 points.
Last season when the Cougars and Tigers met, Memphis used a 33-point third quarter to help them grab the 89-58 win. Jefferson had herself a game with 20 points, 14 of them from the free throw line while she, Green and Lanetta Williams all grabbed seven rebounds.
Wednesday's game against Miami (Ohio) is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off inside the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Coverage of the game can be found on ESPN+ and on 98.9 THE ROAR OF MEMPHIS with Tyler Springs on the call.
