STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Memphis Tiger women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Mississippi State Saturday in Starkville, Miss.

A pair of ranked Bulldog doubles teams won their matches against the Tigers, giving Mississippi State (2-0) the doubles point. Memphis' Monique Woog narrowed the Mississippi State lead to 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fifth singles position, but the Bulldogs took the next two singles points to capture the match.

"I felt like we came out a little bit nervous, just not as relaxed as we had in our first few matches," head coach Hayden Perez said. "The girls competed hard, and we have been playing well. I just think nerves cost us a little today. Mississippi State is a solid team and too good for us if we come out a little shaky. Hopefully we can fix that our next time out.

"We are looking forward to a great week of practice and a couple of home matches next week."

The Tigers (3-1) are home for their next three matches, hosting Xavier Friday, South Florida next Sunday and North Texas on Saturday, Feb. 5.
