Tigers Announce 2021-22 Non-Conference Schedule
Sep 17, 2021 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Head coach Katrina Merriweather and staff have released their non-conference schedule for their first season at the helm of the Tigers. Memphis will play 12 non-conference games, five of them in Elma Roane Fieldhouse, over the course of November and December.
"We believe we've put together a schedule that will challenge us in terms of competition and travel," said Merriweather. "We are excited to see how all of our hard work in the pre-season will translate in games. Our goal is to simply get better every time we step on the floor."
Season ticket holders may begin renewing their season tickets while fans who are interested in purchasing new season tickets can visit HERE. The Memphis Ticket Office can also be reached during business hours at (901) 678-2331.
The Tigers will kick things off in the newly renovated Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Nov. 9 against a Xavier team that returns two of their top three scorers from a season ago. Memphis will then host Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Nov. 14.
Two of Memphis' away contests will be part of the LMU Thanksgiving Classic in Los Angeles, Calif. set for Nov. 26 and 27. The Tigers will open the weekend with host school, Loyola Marymount, on Friday and then will play the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The American Athletic Conference schedule will feature 16 games with home-and-home matchups against Cincinnati, East Carolina, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, and Wichita State. The Tigers will also host Houston and Temple while traveling to UCF and South Florida.
Memphis returns four of its top five scorers from last season including fifth year senior Alana Davis, who shot just over 54 percent from the field a season ago, and local Memphian Madison Griggs, who drained 35 three-pointer last season and ranked as one of the best long-range shooters in the AAC.
The Tigers also welcome winning duo Tyler Frierson and Emani Jefferson, who come to Memphis following successful stints at Wright State with Coach Merriweather and crew. Both were part of the 2020-21 team that went 19-8 and claimed a share of the Horizon League regular-season championship and won the Horizon League Tournament that secured them a trip to the NCAA National Tournament. Frierson was also part of the 2018-19 Raider team that won the Horizon League Tournament and set a new program record of 27 wins in a single season.
The full AAC schedule, game times and television information will be announced at a later date.
