Tigers Start Conference Play Hosting Preseason Favorite UCF
Sep 17, 2021 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tigers are set for the home and American Athletic Conference opener Saturday night at 8 p.m. against UCF.
Saturday's game can be seen on ESPN+, and live stats are also available.
"Conference play is finally here, and we truly feel the non-conference part of the season has prepared us for this part of the season," Tigers head coach Richard Mulrooney said. "Finally being home will be nice, but I do think the time on the road brings a team together and I feel we took advantage of that.
Memphis (1-4-1) absorbed a tough 3-2 defeat in its most recent match at Central Arkansas, but the Tigers erased a 2-0 deficit with a pair of late-game goals before ultimately falling.
"It might not have been the results we wanted up to this point, but the lessons we have taken from those games along with important minutes for this young team are priceless for us. It's now up to us to utilize those lessons for these very challenging conference games and find ways to get results, whether it be home or away."
UCF is 2-3-0 on the year, with two of those losses being 2-1 defeats to No. 10 Virginia Tech and RV North Carolina State.
After Saturday's game against the Knights, the Tigers remain at home and host Tulsa next Friday at 7 p.m. That game is also available on ESPN+.
